HRDN SL Welcomes Gitahi Githuku: A Champion for Human Rights and Security

We are thrilled to welcome Stephen Gitahi Githuku, an esteemed human rights defender from Kenya, who will be joining us as one of the facilitators for an upcoming training session on Digital and Physical Security Management and Risk Assessment. This vital training is designed specifically for human rights defenders (HRDs) and is made possible through the generous support of Iris Aid.

Gitahi currently serves as a Program Officer with the American Jewish World Service (AJWS), where he spearheads initiatives focused on Land, Water, and Climate Justice. His dedication to advocating for marginalized and grassroots communities has been evident throughout his career, including his previous work with Sexual Health Rights programs. Gitahi’s extensive experience in grant-making has empowered communities by providing them with the resources necessary to advance their rights and improve their living conditions.

His involvement in network and movement building has been instrumental in fostering collaboration among human rights defenders. By leveraging human rights tools and mechanisms at both national and regional forums, Gitahi has made significant strides in advocating for essential justice issues and good governance. His expertise spans a variety of critical areas, including security and protection for HRDs, indigenous people’s rights, and SOGIE (Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression) rights. Gitahi’s commitment to advancing basic rights and fundamental freedoms for all is unwavering, making him a leading figure in the human rights landscape.

During the upcoming training session, Gitahi will share his knowledge and insights on Digital and Physical Security Management and Risk Assessment.
